Scotty here, so you want to fix your MG Midget or Austin Healey Sprite? Well here is a great place to start but first let me tell you a little about myself because it would be a shame to lose contact.
You have arrived at my Social Enterprise Blog where I raise funds to enable my School which teaches children basic practical skills such as car maintenance FREE of Charge. Thank you for visiting. The site is supported by Classic Car Enthusiasts and Parts Suppliers of many marques. However my passion is MG Midgets & Austin Healey Sprites and so that is what I predominately write about. I have quite a few of these cars so please #Don’tTellDoris as she thinks I’ve got a proper job.
How to fix your MG Midget or Austin Healey Sprite ! Well that is some claim to make ? but this post is all about helping first time owners select a great guide to help you crack on and repair your car yourself. I can remember my first MG Midget. It’s a love affair straight away and no matter what goes wrong with them you are determined to fix it. In time I will be adding posts on specific tasks such as Front Suspension Overhaul, through to how some Enthusiasts have achieved power increases to 140BHP etc, etc and I have no doubt some of my friends in the Spridget World will be helping me and offering their products here too.
If you are a beginner then the very first investment I would recommend you make is purchasing a Haynes Service Manual. Now I am on the wrong side of 50 but I can remember thumbing through the pages of a Haynes Manual when I was 17 years old. Trying to remove the cylinder head on my Vauxhall Viva with the intention of polishing the chambers to gain more power ! These are great books which sequentially talk you through the stages with lots of pictures to help too. Here’s a link so you check can out the latest deals on Amazon today and make your own choices. (it is realtime so you are looking what is out there right this second)
Now as you can see there are many similar books in Amazon but my honest opinion is start with one of these. The other books which are available in this link (at the time of me writing this) are also great books but each one in my own opinion has its own merits and I will cover these in time and more.
Now the second thing you need to do as a New Owner of an MG Midget or Austin Healey Sprite is join a club. Most clubs offer great Social Media Platforms. One of the great things about these is that it doesn’t really matter where you live or what time of day it is, help is normally not far away. You can test me out on this , post a wheel bearing issue at 7 in the morning UK time and someone will respond. Now there are many clubs, so which one do you choose ? Well this is where it gets tricky for me because I wish to remain impartial. I am a member of every Club associated with the MG Midget & Sprite World. However your most likely to see me hanging around in The Midget & Sprite Club. Here is a link to them. I will be introducing other clubs at the end of every post. I will be doing Club Profiles for Regional Clubs who ask me to do so.
Why not subscribe to my page (actually you can’t at the moment because I don’t know how to do that bit yet) but you can like my Facebook page. That way you will always be able to find me and I am happy to receive requests for help via email, if I can’t help then I will know someone who can. You will see that I have a Secondhand Parts shop on the Menu Bar. This is updated almost everyday with MG Midget and Sprite Parts, another useful tool for you. Soon we will be selling New Parts too.
