Scotty here. I am so pleased to announce that we won the MG Metro Cup – Drayton Manor Theme Park – Competition. This is a great surprise for our Social Enterprise. It means that whilst we are presently gearing up to work with some 15, 16, 17 and 18 year olds we can now give a treat to some of our younger fans who are patiently waiting for our Enterprise to gain enough traction, support and sufficient experience to accommodate the younger people who want to learn Practical skills.
The MG Metro Cup Championship is the MG Car Club’s one-make racing formula for all types of MG Metro. Started in 1992, the Championship has been successful in maintaining it’s objective of providing an easy way into motor racing for drivers with a limited budget. The series attracts a varied selection of drivers, from those who have competed for several seasons to absolute novices. This obviously provides a good environment for those finding their way in circuit racing, as the more experienced competitors are always willing to offer help and advice to the newcomer. In terms of mechanical expertise, the drivers range from those who have built their cars from the shell upwards, to those who have little mechanical knowledge but who have a strong desire to race. One advantage of a single make formula is the wealth of specialised information that it fosters and the way that information is shared between competitors, and this certainly applies in the case of the Drayton Manor Park MG Metro Cup.
Here is a little look at the Championship in action and below is some great info for Mums and Dads looking for a fantastic place to take their Children this summer.
The championship has been sponsored for many years now by the Drayton Manor theme park. This is a family run concern and is one of the top four leisure and theme parks in the UK. The Championship sponsors bring with them a huge amount of enthusiasm and Colin Bryan, the Managing Director, has been instrumental in the success of this exciting series. The MG Car Club is very similar to Scotty’s i.e. a not for profit organisation. It is run by it’s Members for Members. We are hoping they will embrace our Social Enterprise
The MG Car Club is the original club for MG owners, based in the heart of MG country, Abingdon in Oxfordshire. We are a not for profit organisation, with nine full time staff, and a worldwide membership of 50,000 enthusiasts. We welcome every type of MG, from the very first cars to the very latest.
The MG Car Club was formed in 1930 by the MG factory, when in Abingdon, and has been providing top quality support for generations of MG owners ever since. Our strong factory connections mean we possess a wealth of historical material at our headquarters.
The Club’s Head Office, Kimber House on Cemetery Road, Abingdon, is situated on the edge of what was once the MG Car Company’s headquarters and factory – where Cecil Kimber (Managing Director from 1935-1945) and John Thornley (General Manager and subsequently Managing Director) successfully ran one of the world’s most well-known and well-respected car manufacturing companies. In 2017 the Club won the prestigious honour of ‘National Car Club of the Year’ at the National Car Club Awards.
