Useful information for Classic Car and Retro Car enthusiasts, as many of these tasks are no longer required on modern day cars.
Remember folks these are ‘bygone guides’ … useful but the safety and personal protective equipment measures are reflective of bygone awareness. Stay safe.

Step By Step Remove Differential from Axle Casing
Undo the twelve bolts which hold the differential cover in place and remove the cover and gasket.
Use a sharp centre punch or chisel to mark each bearing cap so that they can be replaced correctly.

Then undo the two bolts which secure each cap and lift away both of the caps.

It may now be necessary to stretch the casing so that the differential carrier can be extracted and BL special tool 18G 131 C will be required to do this job. I doubt you will find one of these yet in many cases the carrier assembly can be prised out without stretching the casing simply by levering out the unit with the wooden handle of a hammer.

Now lift out the spacers from the casing.
