Locate The equaliser Nut Underneath

Replace An Equalising Handbrake Cable
First locate and release the nut which connects the equalizing unit to the front cable.

Remove The Wheel Hub Nuts

Replace An Equalising Handbrake Cable
Prise off the dust cover at the wheel hub and remove the split pin and holding nut.

Remove Drums And Cable From Lever

Replace An Equalising Handbrake Cable
Remove the brake drum and using a pair of pliers remove the end of the brake cable from the lever.

Work Cable Through Back Plate

Replace An Equalising Handbrake Cable
Feed cable through from the back of the brake drum with the help of a screwdriver.

Remove Completley

Replace An Equalising Handbrake Cable
Working now from both sides of the brake assembly manoeuvre the cable through the back plate.




Remove Cable Through Lower Radial Arm

Replace An Equalising Handbrake Cable
When you have freed the cable push it through the lower radial arm.

Slide Back Dirt Excluder

Replace An Equalising Handbrake Cable
Locate the cable joiner underneath the car and slide back the dirt excluder to access the cable.




Unhook Front End From Lever Arm

Replace An Equalising Handbrake Cable
The first step in dealing with the front end of the handbrake is to unhook the cable from the lever arm.

Release Bolts In Engine Compartment

Replace An Equalising Handbrake Cable
The release bolts which are located in the engine compartment must now be removed.

Disconnect Battery & Unbolt Cable Under Dash

Replace An Equalising Handbrake Cable
Disconnect the battery and then unbolt the handbrake from under the dashboard.

Disconnect Electrics

Replace An Equalising Handbrake Cable
Draw out the handbrake arm and disconnect the electrical connection.

Remove Release Pin

Replace An Equalising Handbrake Cable
Using a drift tap out the pin to release the cable. When re-assembling insert the pin from the opposite side

Reverse Procedure To Refit

Fitting new is simply a reverse of the above procedure.
